One of the players from your team will be selected and one of
his skills will be chosen for the bonus point. The choice of player
is determined by a number of different factors and is not always
the player who played the best in the game. (Otherwise it would almost
always be your top player who would improve!)
The bonus point will then be added to that players chosen skill if
1. The skill is not already at 12.
2. The player is under 31 years old. (under 24 years old for friendlies)
3. The player's total skill is under 36 points for teams playing in the Amateur leagues.
If the select player and skill does not qualify for the bonus skill
point based on the rules above then no point is awarded.
Note
|
The rules for players gaining skill points in friendly
matches are slightly more complicated. Please see
here for more
details. | |

From this you can see that if you have a great squad with many
players with skills at 12, then there is less room for improvement
and therefore it is more difficult to gain points.
Newer teams
with lower rated players are more likely to obtain bonus skill
points allowing them to catch up a little bit with the more
established teams.
Also, clearly an older player will reach a point where they do not
improve. Therefore at 31 years old they can no longer gain bonus
points. The age limit is set at 24 for friendlies to encourage
teams to try and develope a youth squad to build for the future.
