Manual - Player's Age and Other Factors (Continued)

Confidence
A players confidence will rise and fall during a season depending on how he and the team are playing. As your team wins league and cup matches your squads confidence will increase (as long as they are not picking up bookings or injuries). Note, confidence points are not gained from friendly matches.

If your team loses then the confidence levels will start to drop, again with the exception of friendly matches.

Tip
A players confidence does have a real effect on his performance on match day. A great player with low confidence might not be as effective as a poorer player with higher confidence. If your team is low on confidence and things start to go wrong during a game then it could be bad news. So take stock of your squads confidence when deciding on your starting 11 for the game, especially when selecting your captain.

Fitness
When players pick up knocks or injuries during games they may have to miss matches to recover. Their fitness level will give you an indication of how long they will be out for. Also, the fitter a player, the more effective he will be during a match, particularly towards the end of the game.

Players will gain two fitness points a week. However, unless they are playing, their fitness will only rise to 7. To get to 8 or 9, (the match fitness zone) they must be playing games. If a player has a fitness of 9 and he is dropped, his fitness will drop back down to 7.

If a player picks up a minor knock during a game he may lose up to 3 fitness points. A serious injury during a game may see his fitness drop right down to zero.

If a players fitness is below 5 then he is injured and can not play again until his fitness gets back to 5 or above. So a serious injury could keep a player out up to 3 weeks. (That's about a quarter of a season, the equivalent to 3 months in the real world.)
